The day I met my best friend!

Our first date! Dec 9, 1988

December 7, 1988. A day that will live in infamy! That day, I walked into the barracks at NAS Alameda, where I was recently stationed after completing “A” school to become a jet engine mechanic in the Marine Corps to find out I had a new roommate, a Mr. David “Woody” Woodburn. Since I was only 20, didn’t have a car, and we were poor
we decided to go to the E club that Wednesday evening. I was wearing some jeans, my “OP Otter” T-shirt and my jean jacket, but it was Wednesday and who was I going to impress? So, we stepped on over to the club where it turned out we were about the only ones there, except for a few other people and this drop-dead gorgeous chick dancing on the dance floor. Unfortunately, I was in jeans and a t-shirt, not my usual “night-life attire” so I wasn’t sure I would get her attention. Woody and I sat there, talking and getting to know each other, while I was staring at this hottie out of the corner of my eye. The evening came to an end, we were getting up getting ready to leave when I noticed the hottie, talking to the waitress and pointing at our table. “Sit down!” I silently screamed. The two of them walked over to our table, where the waitress, Leslie, leaned over and asked me my name

Our early days dating.

“Jim, Teri, Teri, Jim” were the magical words that came after. After about 30 seconds of idle conversation, Teri walked out of my life, never to be seen again.  At least that’s what I thought.  The next day, Woody and I were reminiscing about the previous night with my fellow Jarheads in the common area of the barracks when I heard, “Parris!! Phone call!” I went to answer the phone, and low and behold, it was that hottie on the other end!!!

She’s so cute!

Well, not to bore you with all the details, but within two weeks, I knew I had met my wife, and 18 months later we were husband and wife. She has been my best friend, my greatest ally, my biggest motivator, and the love of my life ever since. I have enjoyed and loved these past 30 years andlook forward to the next 30! I love you Babydoll! Happy Anniversary!
